Music Video Outlets

In this task I will be analysis the main music video outlets. The music video outlets are as the following Mainstream TV, Music channels, Direct CD/ Special Edition CD/ DVD Release, Streaming websites (e.g. YouTube), Artist Website, Downloads (legal and illegal)

Mainstream TV:

 BBC ONE, BBC TWO, ITV1, CHANNEL 4, CHANNEL 5

T4 was on to 9:00am to 1 pm they would usually play the up’s top 40 chart. A benefit playing music videos on mainstream TV is that the artist can get known and advertised but also a negative to playing music videos on main stream TV is that after one song there’s always a advertisement that last 3 to 4 minuets

When viewing a new music video on Mainstream TV such as channel 4 they usually add that music video in their schedule if there is 1 to 5 minutes available and if there’s nothing to fill that time with. One of the biggest pros to main stream TV is that viewing the videos is free but if that video is coming from a channel such as MTV the amount of that video gets from that channel some of their viewing profit goes to the record company but there’s is also a negative to this the record companies have to pay the company’s to stream there video. Usually in the weekdays they never play the new music videos but on the weekends some channels such at channel 4 used to fund a show called T4 & Top of the pop's. 

One of the main reason music videos have stopped being played on mainstream TV is because now that there’s music channels now available on sky and virgin people have stopped waiting for the music videos to be played and watch the music on the new music channels also now that we live in the era of internet people just stream the song they want to hear and can listen to them anytime. Mainstream TV is linked to the music channels outlets because before there was music channels people would get there music fix from the one hour show on BBC TWO (top of the pop's) and the morning show T4 on channel 4

Music channels

MTV, Box, 4Music, MTV Dance, MTV Base

If you have a Free view box you can get 4Music because the channel is free but if you want 
any of the MTV channels you have to pay. 

Music Channels

2 cons for music video outlets are that some people may not be able of afford the channels but like music so they can’t get t and another con is advertisements for example a music show is playing such as the uk top 40 there just about to tell their audience who is number one for the week then there’s a advert that plays for 5 minutes and in that 5 minutes the video that was number one would be over. A positive to music video channels are sometimes they show music videos that are being premièred on their channel. Another positive about music channels is all the videos are in HD with the best quality and resolution 

out of the outlets Music channels is linked to streaming because people would not have to wait to hear they song that there waiting for on the channels and that people dont have to wait 5 minuets to listen to music but streaming sites such as youtube have a 5 second advert before the video starts 

Direct CD/Special Edition CD/DVD Release 

CD/ Special edition CD/ DVD release are mostly for those who don’t have a mp4 player or mp3 or simply don’t trust the internet with their bank details. 

Some positives about CD’s are people can collect CD’s or support there artist for example I bought avicii’s album to support him because he’s my favourite artist and that songs he brings out are really good another positive is that when buying a CD/ DVD they also include bonus features which cannot bought online. Some negatives to buying CD’s are that some people may lose their disc. One of the other negatives to buying CD/ DVD is they can be broken and no be can’t be fixed

Direct CD/Special Edition CD/DVD Release is linked to the Download  outlet because now days people are buying music online and not having time to go in to the store and buy a CD that may get scratched and broken 

Streaming Websites 
 YouTube, Twitch

Websites such as YouTube can provide artist with views and popularity. A positive to streaming is artist can get known and get fans some people can get noticed by streaming like Justin Bieber he got found on YouTube and became an artist with a wide range audience. Another positive is advertisements an advert before a video can be skipped but watching just the 5 seconds of the video can still sell the song to the person. A negative is to streaming is the adverts also because people may be in a hurry and want to watch it straight away  also another negative is that buffering if you don’t have good internet you may not be able to watch a video in HD with satisfaction
Streaming is linked to the main stream tv out let because people are watching music videos on the internet on streaming sites such as youtube and not on mainstream tv such as Channel 4

Artist’s Website

Artist websites are there so that fans can see when tour and concerts are being held and also to find out news about the artist and about the upcoming album or single

A positive about have an artist website is the fan has more room to support the artist and just stay up to date with the artist and the new music videos coming out. Another positive is that some artists can preview there new music video to their fan’s. A negative to this is the artist may have a website but have no audience to view the music video anther negative is the artist may not have a website to promote the music video

Downloads 

Legal and illegal 

For a music video outlets downloads can give the artist a payment and the can also have a negative effect to them because with this era of the internet people download music videos  with illegal sites making them loss a profit and wasting there on making the video if people don’t pay if they want to keep it. Programs such as I tunes allow people to pay for the music videos be in there iTunes library a positive to this is that I tunes is a very reliable program but a negative to this is that sometimes they may over charge for the music video but the music video always comes in HD
Downloads is linked to the Music channels outlet because poeple can listen to music on there Music channels and can download if they like it downloads is also linked to the same reason as CD'S and DVD
