Production Log WEEK 9

week 9

In this week both me and my partner Ravinder still had some work that had to be done the first task we had was to complete the evaluation for the music video so that we can get improvements from our teachers. The stuff that we had to think about is how do you think that the shots look and how do you think you could change the shots to improve the final outcome of the music video. We also had to discuss the copyright law with in our music video for example we were not aloud to take ideas from other music videos and claim them as our own to make the music video look and sound better. With this in mind i think that mine and Ravinder's music video was different and came out well because even thought we struggled to film at times we still got the story line across and the typography was different as well not many music videos have it in there own. The other task that we had to do was upload out final music video on YouTube so that the video can be posted on our blogs. When doing this we didn't really face any problems apart from when the computer crashed mid way thorough the uploading process. After this was posted we then began our new unit which would consist of having the music videos used.

Production log WEEK 8 deadline

This week was mine and Ravinder last week to complete the music video and fully edited. The music video had to be done by Friday the latest both me and Ravinder went over every shot seeing if we had to refilm anything again. The production of our video did take me and we did have to re film some scenes e.g. we re did the drum’s in the chorus because we didn’t feel like it was fast enough to sync with beat of the chorus. The one problem I had my self was the amount of rendering I had to do to crop or move across the timeline by 2 seconds. Every change we did we had to render and it because very frustrating. To overcome the amount of rendering we selected the clip we wanted to change and rendered it before we edited. The planes for the following week is do the evaluation and get feedback

Production log WEEK 7

In week seven me and my partner Ravinder continued on editing our work and i carried on developing the lyrics at the start of the week i was nearly done with the lyrics then in our second media lesson of the week i completed the lyrics once i synced the lyrics with the chorus on final cut we though it looked plain so we decided on putting 4 drum scene from diffrent angles as the drums is the main interments you could hear in the song. once we filmed the drums i went back on to final cut and sized them down to the same size and placed the videos in each corner of scene. once this was done we had to render the lyrics and see how they looked and in our own opinion we think they looked really good. once we did the chorus we started to edit the "meet up" scene in to the time line we edited them in and we both agreed that some shot should be re filmed and have more movements in. By our Thursday lesson the shots were re filmed and we completed that scene's editing.

Production log WEEK 6

In week six we began our editing on Final Cut Express we first did research in to the software as i didn't know the software as much as logic. I have used final cut but not alot to know alot about it. I would also have to use After effect cs6 to make the typography. Once we imported our footage in to final cut we started on editing the argument scene and looking at shots we think we have to film again. we decided on to film apart of the argument scene because we both decided we didn't have enough close ups to show the emotion between the lovers to show that they care about each other and have had a falling out because of a boy. Once we picked out the sots to film we looked back at our shooting script and explained the pub situation to our teachers Even though they were understanding about it they still would of liked us to film in a pub but we couldn't find any pub that would allow us so they settled on us using the other location. Mid week in this week both me and Ravinder filmed the close ups of the girls when they were arguing and we also filmed the "meet up" scene when Kulsoom is talking to a male and her girlfriend Ama get jealous. Once we got them scene filmed we edited them in and i began the typography for the chorus. I spoke to my teacher and he wanted me to make the lyrics to show the most important word from the line to be on the scene but as the developer i didn't think it would look good because taking the key word of the line could mean anything and in the chorus there is 7 lines if i was to make the chorus to only show the key word from the line the words on the screen would have to make sense and personally i think have all the words on the chorus looked better because i did try the key words but i didn't looks good as we wanted the chorus to  be the part that people would remember because its catches the people  attention

Production log WEEK 5

Week 5

In week five my aim was to complete majority of the music video filming as this week was half term we would have more time to film both me and Ravinder spoke to our actors and made up a filming schedule with the girls we decided on to film on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. We all decided on these days because both me, Ama and Kulsoom have work on Friday and Saturday. On the Monday we wanted to film in "Ash Grove Pub" but unfortunately they were to business and we had to film that scene on Wednesday because we couldn't film that scene on Monday we decided to change the plan and film the argument scene and complete that scene another day. On Tuesday we filmed the outro and the argument scene at Ravinder's house on that day everything went to plan and nothing went wrong. However on Wednesday it all came tumbling down we went in to "Ash Grove Pub" and the manager took both me and Ravinder aside and told us some very bad news because they had an accident last year with some media students they didn't want to take the risk again they he finally said "sorry we cant allow you to film in our pub anymore". Once the manager told us the bad news we told the girls they can go home and then me and Ravinder began to find new locations we went to several pubs but all of them said we needed permission from our school but we also went to Aunt Aniesse they said we can film in there but we would have to film next week and show some advertisement we agreed to them terms.

Production log WEEK 4

Week four

In week four both me and Ravinder completed our paperwork. We were hoping to film during this week but unfortunately we couldn't start the filming as we didn't finish the paperwork call sheets because we couldn't get a hold of our actors. once i finally got in contact with Kulsoom and Ama and Sujeeth (the piano player) we could start filming just in time for our school half term. The half term would allow both me and Ravinder to film the majority of our music video but in our case we couldn't film the first two verses as one verse was to be filmed in our schools recording studio and another scene to be recorded in "Ash Grove Pub".

The set backs that we had was we couldn't film during the start of the week as we didn't complete the paper work to over come this i completed the paper work in lesson time and on the Thursday we started to film one day behind schedule.

Production log WEEK 3

In this week we worked on our paperwork we also finally got through to Harvester and the mangers said "we have to talk to human resources" once we spoke to the Harvester human resource team they allowed us to film on one day and one day only we decided that the day would be on Friday as our actors Kulsoom and Ama had to go work and were busy. In this week we also went over out shooting script again to see if their were any other ideas we could have if harvester was busy on that Friday. For a back up plan we decided to re visit the park as we would have a cold ending with the homosexual couple on the bench. The initial plan was Kulsoom and Ama enter the video by sitting on that same bench as it ends on and ravinder will come in by a foot ball being kicked near the bench and Kulsoom gives him the ball. However when Kulsoom leaves she forgets her phone and Ravinder chases after her.(this is our back up plan)

Job and roles & Responsibility

The role that i would be doing during the production of my music video will be Editor and Director/ Producer. My partner Ravinder will be the camera man and the director /producer we decided this because Ravinder has past experience with cameras But one of the main reasons we both decided that Ravinder will be the camera man because he can get a good shot anytime and he has had two years of media as being a camera man . I have chosen to be the editor because i have past experience with Final cut pro and the chorus of our music video will be kinetic typography.

at the moment i am  working on the lyrics that will be the screen the idea is only the key words will be on the screen. (currently i am learning on how to do kinetic typography in my free time as the project is about learning new skills)
At the moment i have started the first line of the chorus and i am still working on the other lines the kinetic typography should be done by march the 1st 2014



I have to make sure that:

• My partner Ravinder  has a fully functional copy of the kinetic typography 
• I have to make sure that the video is working well and is synced up with the lyrics
• I have to make sure to tell Ravinder if we need more shots filmed if the original shot does not work well with the video 
• As director i have to make sure that the cast are focused on the project when filming 
• Keep everything organised 
• I as have to make sure that we have the right shots and to keep a day free when editing if we need to re-film 
• Most of all i have to make sure that we get the right shot and to get the cast in the right position when filming 

I will be the most suitable director both me and Ravinder decided that we would use my idea for the music video as the idea contradicts normal videos that have relationship with in the music video and we simply have picked this idea because its unique. I have also to be editor because of the past experiences i have with final cut and that i own After effects for the kinetic typography

Production Log WEEK 2

Week 2

In week three both me and ravinder went over our shooting script and changed a few elements to it for example we changed the first few shots to a cold opining and we also ended the shooting script by ending the video with a cold ending and fading away in to the credits. After we finished   he shooting script we started fill out the paper work to film the music video we decided to split the work equally I did the calling sheets and ravinder did the risk assessment and we both did the production calendar as we had to talk about when you could not film because we both have jobs. The production schedule fits in well because both e and ravinder work on Saturday, Sunday but I work on Monday and he has to look after his younger brother on Mondays so the schedule worked out well for us because we have the week days to film on in the half term holiday and we also have time in school to record the chorus so I can start to make the kinetic typography. Out plans for our following week is to hand in all the paperwork and start filming the recording studio scene and the chorus and I have to start the typography

Production log WEEK 1

WEEK one

During the second week of production me and my partner Ravinder both did the shot types for our shooting script that we would be following during the whole production time. Doing the shot types we also decided to do the type of angles we wanted with in the shots. We first decided on making our first 25 shot for last Monday and finished the 50 by the following Wednesday. We then got feedback on the Shots from our teacher and then added the feedback improvements in to the shots we had already done. Then over the weekend both me and Ravinder went on Skype and completed the rest of the shots up 75 which was needed by our lesson on Monday, From our teacher which is going to be evaluating today by our teacher we will get to finish the shot up to 100 in lesson When getting feedback.  Once we go our feedback we relised that that the shooting script did not have many problems as we thought it would have. We found some of the shot types and angles to be difficult to portray on the camera as they would be repetitive in a scene and to complicated to show the story

Within a week I have 4 lessons of media two with Mr Clark and two with Mr Mallen. The first two lesson the class had was for people to finish of their music video pitch and get feedback. In the third lesson of the week decided who our partners will be. I decided to pick Ravinder because we are very close friends and I wanted to be partner with Ravinder because he has more experience with the cares and the wide range of shots that I want to use. Ravinder also wanted to work with me because out of eleven students in the class only two have had past experience with final cut express and I am one of them. The reason Ravinder decided to pick me was because I have experience with the editing software and my idea contradicts the normal relationship status. In this week we was set our first task as a partnership to make a group video called “group rational”

 the YouTube video was about why we  picked each other and how picking each other would benefit us and if we were going to take ideas from the rejected video. In this week there was one big problem because one of the actors from Ravinders video sujeeth couldn’t act in the holiday because he would be busy in the holidays with his family so instead of having a male relationship we thought still having a homosexual relationship but with two females that we know Ama and Kulsoom. For the following week our plan is to compete the “planning you video” sheet we also want to start and complete out shooting script so we can get on with the filming

If I was to do my music video pitch again I would because there are a lot of things I would like to mention for example I would improve on my terminology because when talking and the conventions I didn't mention Andrew Goodwin’s name about the start personal and I was not as interactive with the audience as others may have shown. I would also make clear what my music video idea will be because I think that when doing the pitch I didn't explain the story line as I wanted to I think that happened because the nerves got the best of me. The story line was that there with be a relationship with a male and female and the female cheats on the male in the relationship he tries to win her back to show the message of the song to not give up when it comes to love.

When receiving the feedback they thought that the video idea was one of the typical boy meets girls video so I replied and say well I do a agree but I also have a backup plan which contradicts relationship music videos and the lyrics and the relationship its self because a male and female are going out but the male goes in to a homosexual relationship which contradicts videos then the male breaks up with the female but the female won’t give up on him but then she meets another male and gets in to a relationship and the homosexual couple move in together and so do the male and female relationship. When doing the music video pitch they thought that the actors were one of the strengths because I wanted to use people that are not being used by other and are close to me and I know that would help me and who I can rely on. One of my other strengths was being creative because not many videos have a homosexual relationship in the video and is the main couple in there. I think having a video that has a homosexual relationship is contradicting enough because it goes against the lyrics e.g. “baby girl I want you back in my life ill carry you over my shoulders if I have to” I thought that a male would carry the other male over his should because the gender is not a girl like the singer says.

When getting feedback from the audience they said I should improve on the idea then I spoke about the second idea. As we all are friends we would know if anyone is nervous and they came across to I was a bit nervous because the pitch was important and they identified that as one off my weaknesses even thought I have a background in YouTube and acting they said I should also improve on my terminology as I said before about Andrew Goodwin.

If I was to do my music video pitch I would jump to it because I think the nervous got the best of me and I would make the homosexual relationship as the main story line because the audience identified that, that was the strongest story for me to do with a r&b song and I would be more interactive with the audience e.g. including them in the pitch and if they understand
